Marketing lessons at age 7

This morning my littlest sat down at the breakfast bar completely satisfied that her “please mom buy this cereal” was staring her in the face ready to be thoroughly enjoyed and devoured.
First the intense moment of getting the cardboard box open, then scissors snipping the plastic bag to the sound of those long awaited tasty O’s to hit the bowl.
Wait, could it be a toy was put inside by those highly intelligent marking people who advertised on the outside of the box this must have cool addition to your breakfast cereal. Why YES, it is a toy complete with directions!
Now the organic milk gets carefully poured making a sea of bobbing O’s waiting to be saved by this little person who fell for the smart marketing strategies.
And the grand finale…..
“These don’t taste like anything”
Now the realization that she will have to eat the box of cereal before another will be purchased has set in.
But hey, she is thinking she got a free toy so it’s not all bad…except that “free” toy….
“Mom the toy doesn’t work”
1 point goes to the highly intelligent marketers out there.
1 point goes to the quick learning 7 year old who has figured it out and stated she’s not going to fall for it again.
